Based on the pattern of previous rounds — this 2026/2027 round opened in early November 2025 with a 15 January 2026 deadline — applications are expected to open in November 2026, with a deadline in mid-January 2027. Stipendium Hungaricum is a scholarship programme of the Hungarian government for international students, coordinated by Tempus Public Foundation and based on bilateral education agreements between Hungary and around 100 partner countries and territories. It funds bachelor's, master's, one-tier master's, doctoral and non-degree studies, mostly taught in English, at Hungarian universities.
What the scholarship pays

non-degree, bachelor's, master's and one-tier master's level, for 12 months a year until the end of studies. If the scholarship holder takes the compulsory Hungarian language course but fails the exam, the stipend drops to HUF 30,000/month. Beyond the compulsory Hungarian language course rule, a free dormitory place, depending on institutional capacity, or a HUF 40,000/month contribution to accommodation costs.
These amounts are a contribution to living costs, not full coverage — Hungarian public healthcare applies on top of the supplementary insurance, and scholarship holders add their own funds for the rest of their expenses. Cost of living varies a great deal between Budapest and smaller university cities.

Who can apply
- You must be a citizen of one of the roughly 100 sending partner countries and territories, and apply through that country's sending partner — not directly as an individual. See the country pages for the sending partner in specific countries.
- Hungarian citizens, including dual citizens, and people with refugee, stateless, asylum-seeker or long-term resident status in Hungary are not eligible.
- You can only apply through the sending partner that matches your own citizenship.
- Applicants must be under 18 as of 31 August of the year the scholarship starts, i.e. born no earlier than a fixed cut-off date each round — except for Dance study programmes. Check the current call for the exact date.
- You cannot apply for a bachelor's-level scholarship while already a self-funded master's student in Hungary, and similar rules apply across levels — see the requirements page for the details that most often trip up applicants.
