Stipendium Hungaricum timeline

Based on the 2026/2027 round, the full process runs for roughly ten months, from preparing documents to arriving at a Hungarian university. Later rounds follow the same pattern, month for month, even if the exact dates shift by a week or two.

1. November–December: read the call and prepare documents. Applicants read the call for applications, get in touch with their sending partner about that partner's own procedure, and gather the motivation letter, school certificates, transcripts, identity document and proof of language proficiency.
2. Up to the deadline (mid-January): submit to Tempus Public Foundation and to the sending partner. The online application must be submitted and the "submit" button clicked before the deadline; a separate submission to the sending partner is also required, on that partner's own schedule.
3. Second half of January: technical check. Tempus Public Foundation checks basic eligibility — age, citizenship, previous scholarships, whether the required documents are uploaded — and forwards eligible applications to the sending partner.
4. Until the end of February: sending partner nomination. The sending partner pre-selects applications and sends a nomination list, including a reserve list, to Tempus Public Foundation. Only nominated applicants continue.
5. Mid-March to end of May: entrance examinations. Nominated applicants are forwarded to their chosen host institutions, which run entrance examinations — first for each applicant's primary choice of study programme, then for the second choice. Applicants are evaluated on a 100-point scale; a minimum score, set by the call, is required to remain eligible.
6. End of May to early June: allocation. Tempus Public Foundation allocates admitted applicants to scholarship places, based on the bilateral agreement, each host institution's capacity, the applicant's order of preference and the entrance exam result.
7. End of June onward: results. Applicants are informed of the final decision by Tempus Public Foundation. Notification can arrive at different times through June and July, one e-mail per applicant.
8. Through the summer: accept the scholarship, apply for a visa.Successful applicants accept the scholarship in the online system, upload any outstanding documents, and start the visa or residence-permit process — see thestudent visa page.
9. By 30 September: arrival and enrolment. Scholarship holders travel to Hungary and register at their host institution in time for the autumn semester, and take part in a compulsory medical examination organised by the university.
