Stipendium Hungaricum for students from India

Based on the pattern of previous rounds — this 2026/2027 round opened in early November 2025 with a 15 January 2026 deadline — applications are expected to open in November 2026, with a deadline in mid-January 2027. Sending partner

Applicants from India apply through University Grants Commission (UGC), under the Education Exchange Programme Agreement between the Ministry of Human Capacities, Hungary, and the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the official Stipendium Hungaricum sending partner for India. Submitting to Tempus Public Foundation's online application system is required, but it is not enough on its own — Indiaapplicants must also apply to this sending partner, on its own schedule.

Local deadline

For the 2026/2027 round, the India deadline was 22 January 2026. Online submission to Tempus Public Foundation by 15 January 2026, 2 p.m. CET; hard copies to UGC by 22 January 2026.

India-specific requirements

Minimum 60% marks in the last qualifying examination from a recognised institution; born on or before 31 August 2008. A UGC-prescribed application format, a printout of the online submission, school/degree certificates, marksheet and a copy of the passport or valid Indian ID are required alongside the Tempus submission.

Scholarship places

200 scholarships — 50 undergraduate, 75 postgraduate, 30 PhD, 40 part-time postgraduate/research, 5 interpreter/translator/literary translator studies (for the 2026/2027 round).. The UGC's own public notice PDF could not be reached directly from this tool (DNS resolution failed); this figure is corroborated by several independent Indian education-news outlets quoting the same breakdown and totalling exactly 200. Re-check against ugc.gov.in directly before publishing a country page.
